Palatine Transportation

Palatine, IL is 28 miles from downtown Chicago, and only 14 miles from O’Hare International Airport. Transportation throughout Palatine and the surrounding community is available by car, bus and train.

Palatine is accessible by several major highways, including I-290, IL Route 53 and US Routes 12 and 14. Other highways nearby include I-90, which is two miles south of Palatine, and I-294, which is located eight miles east of Palatine.

The Metra rail system serves the Chicago area, with 495 miles of railroad, including the counties of DuPage, Lake, Will, McHenry and Kane. Many commuters chose the convenience of public transportation through Metra’s Union Pacific Northwest line, which stops in Palatine several times throughout the day. The Palatine train station is located at 137 W Wood Street.

Other forms of public transportation available to Palatine residents include the PACE Bus System. There are two bus routes that provide service throughout Palatine: Route 699 from Palatine to Woodfield Mall to Elk Grove Village, and Route 723, from Northeast Palatine to Arlington Park.
